IIPM as I see it...
IIPM is in the news and all for the wrong reasons. Being an IIPM student, I'm compelled to rise to its defence. What has to be said has already been said. Yes, the college did lie. But then again not many colleges are as holy as they seem. There is no doubt that what my college did was wrong but being an insider I know what it does right. So I rather talk about that...
Our syllabus is good and challenging. With a wide range of subjects (probably the largest curriculum of any college) coverage was wholesome. A dual specialization was what i wanted and what I got.
Faculty was very good. Like all colleges, we had our share of bad apples. But what I appreciated was that the college didn't hesistate to replace them. They took our considerations seriously.
But I appreciate the most was their efforts in building up my character. Two years ago, I was a quiet and reserved person. The college provided so many opportunities, from public speaking to performing in a band on stage. I know I have changed in the last two years, and I know it has been for the better.
I know my college from within and from without. There's a lot wanting as far as the IIPM management is concerned but then again I can say the same for a lot other colleges. I remember two years ago when I was applying for colleges. I had given an entrance exam at a famous college in Matunga (I won't take names), and cleared it. Couple of days later I get an email from the same college asking me to take the exam again if I had not cleared it! What I found insulting was that I was sent this mail even after I had cleared the entrance test. But what was worse was a cartoon in the same email depicting a person about to jump off a cliff with the caption "No need to take drastic measures if you didn't clear the test the first time, try again".
This is the shocking state of affairs. Atleast my college didn't make it seem that was about to commit suicide! I long deleted the email or else I'd attach it. But I'm sure many will recollect it. I had replied to it, but they obviously never got back.
All things said and done, no college can throw the first stone. IIPM can learn from its mistakes. And I know it will.
